Future upgrade: Logan street, City Rd Intersection Upgrade

Future upgrade: Logan street, City Rd Intersection Upgrade Main Image

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is undertaking planning for an upgrade of the Beenleigh Connection Road (Logan Street)and City Road intersection.

Background

Beenleigh Connection Road is a major north– south arterial link road in Beenleigh, adjacent to the Pacific Motorway M1 (illustrated over page).

This road caters for up to 30,000 vehicles per day with speeds up to 60 kilometres per hour.

The main traffic movements are from the Pacific Motorway M1 to Logan Street (heading west) and to City Road (heading south) with the largest movements occurring in the afternoon peak driving times.

The increased traffic flows through the Beenleigh Connection Road and City Road intersection are causing increased congestion and waiting times for road users and pedestrians.

The upgrade aims to:

  • reduce congestion and improve travel times
  • improve efficiency and network reliability
  • improve freight

All feedback will be considered in the project's Business Case which is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.

Currently, there is no timeframe for the design or construction of the upgrade.

Design features

The proposed intersection upgrade will provide for the following traffic movements.

City St (north)

Dual right turn lanes for vehicles to turn right into Logan Street (west).

Combined through and left turn lane.

City St (south)

Through lane – right turn movements are banned (recently implemented).

Through and left turn lane.

Logan St (west)

Left turn movement only permitted from the Logan Street (west) approach (in a single lane).

Through and right turn movement removed. Access available via local road network e.g., Kokoda St/Lae St.

Logan St (east)

Through, left and right turn movements to be retained.

Design features will also include removal of the right turn movement from Logan Street (west) into York Street (to improve traffic flow on Logan Street) and provision of new, wider footpaths on the north- eastern corner and south-west corner of the intersection.

Route changes

The proposed intersection upgrade closes the through route from Logan Street (west) to Logan Street (east), and the right turn from Logan Street (west) to City Road (south).

Traffic traditionally using these routes can redirect their travel route through the local road network.
